Today was a great day for the team and a season to remember with EVERYONE going on to the State Meet next Saturday.
The boys came in second having been unranked and unnoticed all season through some close pack running and a spirited race. The boys fought off the challenge from Maria Carrillo, moving up from third to second in the final mile of the race. Despite nice temperatures and dry weather the days of heavy rain had created a very soggy course yet they still achieved the second fastest team time in NG history and had a spread of a mere 22 seconds from our first to our fifth runner.
The girls ran next and were locked in an epic battle with favorites Campolindo, who after defeating us at the League Championship by a narrow margin, were looking to continue their winning streak and lock in their 21st title win at NCS. At the mile mark Campolindo was winning 45 to 62 points, with our pack outrun by the Campolindo girls despite having Olivia Joseph in second and Natasha Cohen in sixth. That all changed in the second half of the race as the girls moved up aggressively and all the girls took turns to pull the others forward. In the end our girls pulled off the win with a score of 46 to 72, turning the tables on Campolindo. All seven girls were in the top 20 of the race and we ran the fastest team time in NG history.
We return to training on Monday and through Thanksgiving week, with the State Meet on Saturday 29th at Woodward Park in Fresno.
