NCAA Baseball

Coach Jochner, Fresno State vs. Fullerton

Coach Jochner @ Fresno state vs. Fullerton - goin deep

1,527 colleges in the United States have a baseball program. This means that there are many opportunities for Northgate Baseball players to play collegiate baseball. However, our players should be realistic with their expectations and consider that very few high school baseball players in the country earn the privelage to play at the Division I level. Because 80% of college baseball programs fall outside of Division I, players should seriously consider programs at the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels.

It is important that Northgate Baseball players start the recruiting process during their freshman year. This will ensure that they amass the required units and grades to get into the college of their choice, learn about all their college baseball options, develop the necessary skills to play in college, and understand how to find the best college baseball program for them.

Northgate Baseball players and their families should realize that athletic scholarship funds are shrinking. It is important to consider academic scholarship and finacial aid opportunities when looking to fund college. Families should not rely on athletic scholarship money as it is usually very minimal, if available at all.

Most Northgate Baseball players who want to play at the collegiate level can do so - they just need to find the college the best fits them academically and athletically. College baseball is not "Division I, or bust." Most Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College baseball programs are extremely high quality and very competitive. With a little information and a lot of dedication our student-athletes can continue their baseball careers at the college level.
