Women's basketball finally ended their season after their lose to Carondelete in the quarterfinals of NCS. The Broncos were DVAL Champions with a record of 11-1. This is the 8th League title the women's team has won in the last 20 years. Congratulations on a great season and see you this summer.
Over the last 20 years:
77% winning overall record (442 wins, 129 loses)
82% winning in league (230 wins, 50 loses)
8 Leaue Championships
20 Apperances in NCS and 6 Appearance in NorCal CIF
Going 6-0 in league is not easy. Going 12-0 will be even harder. Everyone will be geared up and focused on beating Northgate. The team will be taking the same approach they have taken all year. Work hard all the time and continue to get better. It takes a lot of commitment to be on the Varsity level basketball team. Commitment is one of the 4 pillars of success we have embraced for our team. Leadership, Respect and Playing Hard are the other 3. If you watch the Cal High Sports TV show that will air this Sunday at 6 and 11 pm, you will hear the captains and seniors talk about how they played hard and demonstrated leadership both on and off the court. As a coach I am very privileged to have such a team of girls to coach. The success this year will be measured not only by our wins and losses, but how well our team embraces the 4 pillars of success. Mid-way through the league, we can say they are definitely becoming more successful in embracing the 4 pillars of success. Tune in Sunday night and see.
Greer Kleber went off for 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the Broncos over the visiting Eagles. She showed she why she is the best offensive player in the league right now with her dazzling finger role moves to the basket. The Broncos also had a strong performance from Rachel Sussman who scored 16 points and 3 assists while leading her team to victory. Rachel is the floor general and sees just about everything out there. She is the one calling the defensive switches and getting the team in the flow of the offense. Meghan Blough contributed 13 points and held her sharp shooting opponent, Maddie West, to under 9 points with the only block of the game. Jamie Hearn scored 4 points and continues to inspire this team to do great things.
The first 3 pre-season games for the varsity women proved a good test as they had to play 3 good teams. The first game against Vintage proved to be the easiest of the games. Meghan Blough took scoring honors with 15 pts. In the second game against a tough Montgomery team, the Broncos could not match their height and had a poor shooting night only going 25% from the field, eventually losing by 10. The third game was for third place against the host Sonoma Dragons. It was tied at half time but the broncos came out hard in the second half and didn't look back. Inspired by Rachel's Sussman's speach at half time, "The Broncos never lose two games in a row". They went out in Bronco fashion and won the game handedly. Congratulations to Greer Kleeber who made all the tournament team.
